art & poetry to ponder
aka, what gets me through a day of work...
Ruth Asawa! Shapes and shadows. I can't get enough of her these days.
Damien Hirst's "For the Love of God" @ Art Basel Miami
and a quote from a great poet:
"The love of form is a love of endings."
from Celestial Music by Louise Gluck
which led me to yoga practice, the finishing pose, of course, which is savasana, or corpse pose. I'm not trying to be totally morose today (although "Think of your death daily," was some guidance I received from a Zen monk very early in my seeking life). The point, of all this, I'm finally getting, is live NOW, not later. I look to Asawa as someone whose lived 90 some years, making stuff every step of the way, with her community and with her own two hands. Hirst's image simply struck me as a glittering ode (literal diamonds pasted to a skull) to how precious our very human lives are, and Gluck just always nails it. So. it's raining. I've Christmas lights and warm-floored yoga studios and songs to rehearse....
